Our Community

When moving into this area, something which struck me was the strong sense of community: communal vegetable gardens; communal libraries; communal running groups; communal history; communal stories; communal tragedy; and communal triumphs.  It’s a delight to be a part of – thank you Jesus for Nillumbik Shire!

God had our community in mind when he made covenant with Abraham!  That his offspring would be a people who knew their God and they would be God’s people.  They would be a witness to the world around them, of a group of people who live by God’s ways: in faith; in love; in hope; through relationship with Jesus and with each other.

As a local community church, we are called to love God with all our heart, mind and strength and to love our neighbours as ourselves.  There have been so many wonderful examples of this over the past 150 years!

We are a church who is growing in Jesus – a church who prays.  1. Because prayer changes things and 2. Because when we pray for others, our concern for them grows.  Our Community Prayer Board is a place for people to post a prayer and pray for another’s concerns.  Additionally, our Community Prayer Day (24th June) is an opportunity to leave the church building and pray together for the needs and communities within our local area, while supporting those actively involved.

We are a church who loves like Jesus.  In the Love our Neighbour campaign, we are encouraging people to nominate a local trader, to pray for them, to find ways to show love to them/their staff and to connect with them.  If you haven’t yet, take a look on Sunday at St John’s.

We are a church who Shares Jesus.  Go wild with Going Bananas!  What an opportunity to gather together and serve our local community, especially the school aged people!  It’s not too late to be involved, take a look at the Info Hub for details.
